Identifying and Overcoming False Core Beliefs for Inner Peace

Core beliefs often rule our life, especially when we don’t question their validity. These beliefs, when unhealthy, become limiting beliefs, also called ‘false beliefs’. The Superego, or commander, is programmed to find beliefs that match highly emotional experience, make interpretations and makes commandments based on these adopted beliefs. The superego can create some pretty nasty, unhealthy limiting beliefs for us to live our lives by. I often refer to these unhealthy beliefs as Brules or Bullshit Rules (thank you Vishen Lakhiani for that inspiration of the term brule).

Typically we inherit our Core/False Beliefs from friends or family, and they are often reinforced through strong emotional experiences that seem to validate them. Over time, these ‘false beliefs’ get stuck in our psyche as ‘parts of us’ develop a strong emotional allegiance to them. They FEEL true.

We are often hijacked by these ‘parts’ or sub-personalities, who have emotional allegiance to these ‘false beliefs’, especially when we haven’t developed a strong Adult Self.

But YOU, the adult you, does not have to have emotional allegiance to these beliefs. You can choose differently even if you don’t FEEL like it. You are not a slave to your emotional reactions to life.

I teach these ideas in length in my Primal Trust mentorship, but for now I’d like to touch on how core limiting beliefs are enacted by our inner psyche. From there you get to decide if you want to keep having emotional allegiance with these beliefs.

Here are a few of the most common core beliefs. Also included here are what it might look like if the superego aspect of your consciousness adopts this collective false belief, and how the belief might get carried out in your life by wounded parts of you. ‘Parts’ are simply neuropathways that are a composition of memories+emotions+beliefs+behaviors.

  1. I’m insignificant, I can’t trust myself or others, I’m powerless….

We don’t have to believe the super ego and its interpretation of these limiting beliefs that have been programmed into our society. We can create our own internal rule. Or we can let go of beliefs altogether and just live a life we want to live regardless of what our superego our parts think and feel. We can raise our conscious awareness above them all.

And do you know what else? You don’t have to change your limiting beliefs in the way you have been trying. Efforts to do this consciously often does not work because our core identity is meant to preserve itself. And also because your limiting beliefs are only held true by ‘parts’ of you, you may not need to change them at all. Your healthy adult main personality can choose something else, and behave differently while simultaneously feeling the false belief of your inner psyche. That’s my work in the Primal Trust Mentorship. To teach your adult main personality to choose for him/herself/oneself. You decide for you. And you can even let your parts whine and cry your new decision and action because they won’t like that you are breaking the inner brule of the Superego. You can lovingly tell your parts that you believe differently and are doing to do what’s best for you from now on. Eventually the parts will follow your lead b/c you are retraining your subconscious with your awareness and your actions. In addition, your body functions, such as your limbic protection system will follow your lead. Overtime, you will rewire your superego to be programmed by your adult main personality instead of your environment.

Simply put, we change our core beliefs through our actions!

You have this power within. You are stronger than your beliefs.
